"In the lavishly illustrated book, for the first at the level of a monographic study, the history of origination and development of the ex-libris art starting form the 16^th century till our time is covered, its varieties considered, its content interpreted. The variety of ex-librises arises in the historical and artistic context of the original and still insufficiently explored stratum of the Ukrainian history and culture. Significant attention is paid to classification, art and style features issues, substantiation of ex-librises' attribution to the Ukrainian ancestry.

By the number of ex-librises represented in the publication, highlighting of work by lots of generations of artists, the substantial level of processing the material, the monograph has no analogues. The major part of library signs represented are published for the first time.
