From the first seconds, having heard the first words of the novel, one understands for sure – you will not stop. This book will be read, that is listened to, from the beginning to the end. Attentively, with care – as they read and, especially, re-read the favorite books. Actually, from the very start you already know – this book will become one of them, the favorite ones... And, by the way, this book is lucky to have achieved such reciter. It has been read by the actor of Ivan Franko theater Olexander Formanchuk. To say that he has read it well – means to say nothing. He has read it with his heart – you can hear it very expressly. Not a hint to indifference, to that it is just a job. Not a hint to acting, nothing affected – the text sounds so natural that it is as though you read it for yourself, with your eyes, but not listen. And the voice – very warm, sincere. Humane. Sure, every ear enjoys its own voice, but it seems to me that exactly this voice will be enjoyed by everyone who will listen to "Notes of the Snub-Nosed Mephistopheles" in this performance. However, make sure yourself. I won’t say anything either about the author, or about the plot of the book – listen, go deeper, discover. It is worth trying. "Kholodny Yar" is one of those books that one could read through over one night, a true bestseller with the 70-year old history! Collective reading of the book used to be organized in "Prosvita"'s, names of its characters were adopted as pseudonyms by young OUN members. One could say without exaggerating that Yuri Horlis-Horsky became an idol of thousands of Ukrainian patriot...

"The classic of Ukrainian literature Stepan Vasylchenko (1879-1932) is a humanist writer, wonderful narrator and artist of the word. His works are spiced with benevolent humor, often have unexpected endings, are stylistically refined and, at the same time, simple. Whoever the author might tell us about – children or adults – these stories are about love and kindness, material difficulties and spiritual riche..."

To live. Not for the sake of a high objective thoroughly explained in programs of all sorts of preachers, from religious to political and psychiatric ones – who cares, actually, about their programs. In a nutshell, one can say so: if you cannot help – do not interfere.

Characters of his personages are expressive, precise, and deep. Relations among them – sharp and delicate. Details – very eloquent. And thus it appears that his works are not just literature, but almost films, and it is very easy to get into the midst of them.

A person who has the talent of a writer and the heart that is sincere, warm to people around has the ability to notice – and not to make out of it any great deal or loud merit. Such person pays attention to everything, large and small – and is able to choose what is important, characteristic among everything. And – to tell about it truly, richly, deeply.
