"The film "Duma about Taras Bulba" is the first realization on the screen of the milestone work by M.V.Gogol. Creators of the film set the goal of transferring to the screen the most important pre-conditions of Gogol's work, which was written in rhythmic prose and is, in fact, a heroic Ukrainian "duma". This is the key to the film represented. The cinematographers Petro Pinchuk and Evgen Bereznyak aimed to convey to the audience the unique colors of the epoch, to "bring back to life" the Ukrainian spirit of that time, to outline artistic and psychological features of a Zaporizhia Cossack – the knight, defender of his Motherland. The People's Artist of Ukraine Myhailo Golubovych creates the image of the Great Cossack, who cannot consume the hellish fire of the Ukrainian Calvary. The coauthors tried to avoid the stereotype of a "costume film", they turn attention of the audience to those unique features of the Ukrainian mentality that create the basis of the national image. A special mood is created by the lyrics by Leonid Toma performed by the group "Braty Karamazovy". The film reaches the poetic height of a heroic duma with the epic deep implications. The TV film "Duma about Taras Bulba" is a spontaneous spiritual response to the 200th anniversary from the birth of the great Ukrainian, the outstanding writer Mykola Gogol". Production: LTD "Gold Production", 2008 Screenwriters: Evgen Bereznyak, Leonid Toma Cinematographers: Petro Pinchuk, Evgen Bereznyak Acting: Myhailo Golubovych Not recommended for watching by people under 14.
