A new album of Stepan Giga, a composer and a performer, is a real example of, so to say, classical Ukrainian variety art. I would rather call it the example of correspondence. Melodies and arrangements correspond to his grey-haired forelock, while the content of the songs corresponds to his long black moustache. In other words, this is the album recorded by a real romanticist, who has been hardened during numerous campaigns undertaken in the name of love – since notwithstanding the number of defeats or victories, he has not become disappointed with his goal and keeps going towards it. At that, the matter concerns not only the love for a woman. Here you can find the song about Christ – personally I see the personification of Motherland in it, to be exact – the personification of love for Motherland. It is quite probable that I am mistaken. But in any case, in this album the theme of love is revealed and interpreted in a wide sense – it is exactly thanks to this fact that one symbol imperceptibly flows into the other one. Then all of them converge to one point.
