Hurt Mandrivnyh Djakiv "Vertep". Spivanyk. (Songbook)

Having had an attentive look, you will see that it is indicated on the cover of the album: "the most popular Ukrainian folk songs of the 20^th century". This is the second thing that one needs to know about this disc. And the first one – do not forget that this is a new album by the group "Vertep". And what follows? Well, that "Vertep" has always been specific for its authentic, genuine interest in folk songs – in the pleasantly extensive understanding of this definition. And at that – it has never limited itself in the field of music quests and experiments. The result – every new album by the group differs considerably from the previous one, although something in common (for example, lightness and quality) remains as a permanent sign. However, if one wishes, in the new work it is possible to find some familiar features: folk-rock (album "Underground"), city romance ("Buchalchyn Gandzh"), art-rock ("PoemSongs") – but they do not constitute an exhaustive picture. Actually, "Songbook" can be described with one word – "fusion" – but only because this word has such an extensive, universal meaning today that it covers, well, virtually everything. And "Songbook" is like that – universal. Music interpretation of the material in this album – deserves respect. Literally every song really vibrates and sounds. Not otherwise, really – vibrates (even though some songs remain virtually unchanged). And frequently the new arrangements look so cool and natural that you do not at once remember how different the original is. And this – in our opinion, sure – is success.
