Zapaska is an interesting, cozy and energetic post-rock duo that with the both pairs of its feet firmly stands on the principles of minimalism. Actually, this music significantly differs from what Yana Shpachynska and Pavlo Nechytailo do in their groups (
CheChe and
Propala Hramota, respectively). Moreover, Zapaska is a family project, and it is not a fact that this fact is not felt in everything that concerns the quality of the voiced fantasies. At least, Yana and Pavlo hear each other well – and this becomes particularly important in the conditions where there are few means of expression. In this album, it seems that out of live instruments, only the guitar, accordion and harmonica are involved – well, and the archive of loops on the top of it. However, the songs are characterized by their expressed dimensions – they combine a quiet, almost estranged atmosphere and some implicit drive, internal spring. Plus the not too ordinary texts – in four languages, by the way, - and the specific charm characteristic of the both participants’ voices. At as a result – we have an album that is, probably, not for every day. But if you catch its wave – it will shine as a quiet pearl...
