With the recent release of the single "Merry, Brother, Times Have Come..." the group "Okean Elzy" have already given us the reason to think that we should expect for some changes. Well, and the present release of the disk "1221" only confirms the logic of such pre-sentiments. In fact, this album is a compilation, here, they have collected the best, the most interesting, the loudest songs by the group from all of its albums, all through the time of their existence. However, there are also a couple of pleasant surprises – as songs that were not included into any official album. In other words, you should not doubt – here, you have something worth listening to, and there is not a single superfluous song. Popularity of these songs is tested by far from just one year, millions of people know them by heart. If you are not one from those millions – you should start your acquaintance exactly with this disk, because "Okean Elzy" appear here, actually, in all of their beauty. Well, and personally for me this disk is still a parting sign, an indicator of changes. The old goes away, the new is born. ..this disc is a collection of songs based on Zhadan's poems performed by various Ukrainian groups. "Various" is the key word here, because stylistically the songs represented here differ considerably. There is "Luk" with cosmo-disco, and folk rock by "Vertep", folk-chanson by "Kalektsiya", ethno-lounge by "Ojra", and so on – the mosaics appear surprisingly interesting and bright.

This disc, evidenntly, does not make any sense for those who have long been acquainted with works by Gontarsky – I suspect that such people, mostly, already have all of his albums. But for those who are only going to make their acquaintance – that really makes sense. Because recommending with which album to start – is too difficult a task.

Unlike condensed milk, this disc does not contain any surpluses of sugar. Rather, vice versa – the guys from Bram Stocker have once again demonstrated clearly who they are. First, they were named a punk-group, though merry. Now, emphasis has shifted a bit, therefore now Bram Stocker is considered though merry, but a punk-group.

It is good that their music obtains more and more popularity, at the same time not becoming too "trimmed". If a rock-group in Ukraine matures to the point of releasing a collection of the best, this testifies not only to its worthy experience, but also to its being in demand – which cannot but be inspiring. It is good that when compiling this collection, Motor'rolla included here simply their favorite songs as well, regardless of their popularity.

I absolutely love this band! Found them on youtube and they are great for all ages. I made a copy for my grandma who usually just listens to classical stuff and she loves them too! I hope they come to US to tour!

I was introduced to the Music of Okean Elzy from a friend who is Ukraine. The music is a soft rock style compared to other American rock music and fuses together some contemporary sounds with folk music. Very easy to listen to with great instrumentation. The singer gives alot of personallity and passion too. Songs like "Susy" and "Holodno" easily became favorites. Other songs "Druh", "Vulycja", "Majzhe Vesna" and the english song "Long time ago" are also fast favorites.

Звичайно, я дуже радий, що вийшла така цікава збірка, але хотілося б нового альбому. Шкода у "1221" не увійшли такі пісні, як: Дякую, Susy та інші.
P.S. А взагалі Океан - найліпший гурт України!!!
