"When listening to these tales, it is not difficult to notice that they differ from reciting of fairytales by actors. Sometimes their intonations are richer and more expressive, while sometimes the performance is routine, though representing specifically lively communication with the audience. It is due to this original intimacy of performance, when a fairy-tale is narrated here and now and aimed at a concrete listener, that the life of a naturally performed fairytale differs. There are such recordings among those reproduced on this disc as well, however, as folklore experts very rarely succeed in witnessing relaxed communication of the tale-teller with the listener, their number is small. The majority of the fairytales were reproduced by tale-tellers upon the request of folklore researchers.
Live existence of the fairytale in the tale-tellers' mouth has another specific feature that reflects the regional diversity of the folklore tradition. And it is reflected not only in linguistic qualities of the texts, but also in their selection, popularity in certain territories. That is why the disc includes to the extent that it is possible recordings of fairytale performed by tale-tellers from different regions – from the west to the southeast of Ukraine.
