"Should we once again repeat that the twentieth century that has passed (as well as yesterday has) is reflected in us today. One of the brightest events of the "century of yesterday" was and still is the fantastic flash of creativity by "The Beatles" that still continues agitating us. Their music genius was reflected in all music genres of today – academic and variety art ones, but not that much in improvisation music. The number of jazz albums devoted to "The Beatles"'s art is just a little bit more than a dozen (and this is during 50 years!). The new album of the great (and creative) team Cherkasy Jazz Quintet of Sergiy Krasheninnikov is our modest contribution into the treasure-box of jazz versions of songs by the Liverpudlian four. Thus – thirteen LP albums by "The Beatles" (in the chronological order), one song from each. Something is closer to the original, something is farther: jazz is music that is free in its creative search and discoveries. Let us hope that this new CD by Cherkasy Jazz Quintet will turn to be a nice present both for fans of "The Beatles", and for fans of jazz (which is far not always the same). The task is not easy (but feasible?)." Dmitry Zinkov (information from the CD's polygraphy) Sergey Krasheninnikov - piano, leader Alexander Schnayder - bass Valeri Kirichenko - trumpet Nikolai Evpak - tenor-sax Alexander Cherkashyn - drums Special guests: Serhiy Kalinichenko - trombone Yehor Havrylenko - bass guitar

First of all, this disc is a present for all fans of the guitar music. In its various forms – since Mykola Efremov equally deftly handles both acoustic and electric guitars. Moreover, the album must also please fans of the classical art rock – because it's from the music of the 70's that it grew, and this can be heard.

Very transparent, juicy, quiet and confident and yet full of irrepressible life – this is what this work appears like. Stylistically, it continues the trend including the albums "Black" and "Red" – the pure jazz-rock line, with no direct immersions into the lounge or symphonicity. But in a much softer, tender version.

Actually, Braty Blyuzu have never avoided a chance of appealing to the roots – in their previous recordings, there are enough references to Ukrainian themes. But now they have decided to mix a whole new cocktail and have thrown a bunch of fragrant herbs into their crucible: jazz, new-age, art rock, world music...

First, "Braty Blusu" have long ago already – and absolutely deservedly – become a living legend of the Ukrainian jazz-rock. And, second – and this is, probably, even more important – the album is really good and interesting. Interesting, foremost, due to its ambiguousne...

I could say something about the reflection of the musical universe here, as several musical trends and styles got skilfully and gently entangled in this album. Still it seems to me that it would not be groundless to speak about the reflection of the Universe itself, as it is a musical stream, which is characterised by generality.

Any concrete definition would seem too narrow here – even though such directions as new-age, fusion, jazz-rock imply a wide palette of sounds and technical tools. But here you will find all this – and something more, for what there are rather not names, but feeling.

Second Breath is a Kyiv group that has been playing blues for 40 (!) years already. It is quite possible that this is the oldest active blues band not only in Kyiv, but also all through Ukraine. Or, maybe, through considerably wider territories – who know...

Remembering The Beatles - откровенно разочаровал.
