It is now 2009 outside, and only time will show whether we began speaking about it too early – but. It seems to us sometimes that it is now that rising of some new wave of Lviv rock-music is taking place – young, fresh, diversified, just other. At all events, our shelves now more and more frequently exhibit new albums by Lviv groups – as a rule, they deserve attention indeed. Green Silence in this sense is both not an exception, and a good example. In the times when the financial constituent insistently recommends to groups to have in their structure as few members as possible – Green Silence is not afraid to extend its composition to eight participants, not taking into account invited musicians. Even this single fact makes it possible for us to conclude that the main thing for the guys is music as it as, the most decent realization of creative ideas. Well, and the result is there – just listen to the disc. The group says about itself that in the search for its own style it arrived at funk with jazz – and afterwards added into the mixture blues, Brazilian and Hutsul ethno, disco, and not only that. The search continues, windows are open – it is not by chance that the debut album has no name. Suggestions are being accepted. In the end, it is really so – here, it is possible to hear a mixture of "everything with everything", but the mixture is sustained, not aimless eclecticism. Moreover – easy for perception, no matter what kind of music you usually listen to. So, why not check one's horizons? Possibly, the green zebra is exactly what you lacked...

Largely speaking, the group Meri has existed for already approximately 10 years – quite long. But – largely speaking again – first real popularity came to the group only somewhere during the last year. However, the popularity has appeared loud indeed, it is now already difficult to find a place in Ukraine where they would not have heard these songs.

...it seems to me that not the style but the mood comes forward here as the basic guideline. Not that of each separate song, but the mood of the whole album, all music of the group as a whole. The mood that is a little melancholic – but with a considerable share of optimism, with flashes of joy. And without signs of despair.

Their music has not become more difficult - though getting mature is often accompanied with getting some “weight” – on the contrary, it has become just more precise and clean, but in no way ascetic...

The very fact of existence of such music and of the appearance of such group is the evidence of the fact that the city has not become rusty yet. One may smile and play such music right here, on the asphalt of the street, and other people may involuntarily want to dance. At least, here on this spot – it is not important.

It looks as if the guys have found some alternative accumulator in themselves or outside - and connected to it with persistence, which is usually typical for young guys of 17.

Дуже голосне мовчання
Мене важко здивувати концертом. Можливо, через те, що в своєму житті сам відспівав вже не одну тисячу, можливо тому, що передивився виступи більшості світових грандів. Тому скептичності ні щодо себе, ні щодо інших виконавців не бракує. Але якщо йдеться про найнесподіваніші враження, завжди згадую концерт гурту Queen 1986 на стадіоні «Уемблі», коли востаннє співав Фреді Мерк’юрі. Лунало багато нечистого вокалу, але такої шаленої енергетики більше не буде в будь-яких вокалістів світу навіть разом узятих. Мерк’юрі не виконував музику, він нею жив.
Нещодавно ж зробив для себе відкриття меншого масштабу, але з не менш позитивними враженнями. Побував на концерті львівської групи Green silence. Сьогодні дуже складно відшукати в Україні таку унікальну за рівнем віддачі та професіоналізму групу.
По-перше, вони живуть музикою так, як Фреді Мерк'юрі. І не просто нею дихають, а й змушують слухачів «заразитися» своїми емоціями: хочеш того чи ні, а починаєш плескати, рухатися в такт пісні чи танцювати. Себе я впіймав на миттєвому аранжуванні пісень собі під ніс. Ці музиканти смакують всі ноти - від першої до останньої. І отримують від процесу звукотворення неймовірне задоволення. Для більшості українських гуртів музичне мистецтво вже стало ремісництвом: або не хочеться, або не можеться так відриватися. Навряд чи варто пов'язувати це з віком колективів, але, за моїми спостереженнями, стовідсоткова емоційна віддача переважно буває до 5 творчих років, а вже після - вмикаються раціональні гальма. Green silence непомітно оминув п'ятирічну «перешкоду» на п'ятій передачі. У них немає різниці між камерним виступом «для своїх» та концертом на великій сцені. Склад групи за бізнесовими поняттями не сприяє розвитку, адже навряд чи Green silence отримує великі гонорари за концерти, а їх необхідно ділити на вісім рівних частин. Ба більше, кожен із учасників має основне місце праці, але це не заважає регулярно приходити на репетиції, плідно працювати над репертуаром та брати в полон своєї музики нових фанів.
По-друге, ця дивовижна вісімка «сайленсистів» творить якісну еклектику з панку, фанку, фолку, кантрі, року та ще невідь-чого. І коли ця професійна мішанка накладається на вибухову енергетику, пасують найбільш гостроязикі музичні критики. Творчість Green silence лежить у одній площині з Олегом Скрипкою (не фронтменом «ВВ», а тим Скрипкою, який гастролює із Le Grand Orchestre), «Мандрами» та «Гайдамаками». Утім їхня подібність дуже віддалена, бо якщо в названих гуртів творчість базована на фолку, то в Green silence це лише один елемент, який може бути як провідним, так і максимально знівельованим.
Їх часто порівнюють із гуртом «Брати Гадюкіни». Останні більше зачіпали своєю самобутністю, стьобними текстами та драйвовим супроводом. За силою та енергетикою звучання (чи клавішного, чи гітарного), «Green silence» якщо не перевершив, то давно дорівнявся до легендарних «Гадів». Тепер найголовніше не повторити їхню сценічну долю та не розійтися навсібіч. Якщо Green silence зможе не лише втримати колективний запал, а й стрімко розвивати свій потенціал, то через 2-3 роки хлопці справді перекриють всі дотеперішні львівські відкриття у сучасній музиці.
