Strelchenko-Band. My Day.

The first album by Strelchenko-Band is unique, without exaggeration. Already in that, at least, the central instrument of this project is bayan (the button accordion). In the UMKA catalogue, for example, till now there have been only two performers whose albums it is possible in this sense to consider as its relatives – those are Ihor Zavadsky and Motion Trio. But – strictly speaking – in the both cases mentioned the accordion, not the button accordion, is the key instrument. Moreover, Ihor Zavadsky performs non-jazz music, and Motion Trio, actually, is a Polish, not Ukrainian project. Therefore, it seems that "My Day" is the first Ukrainian jazz album "spin" round the button accordion... Spin perfectly – Kostyantyn Strelchenko has proved to be a true master. This refers, sure, to the purely technical virtuosity as well – and it does impress. But one would like to separately emphasize another mastery, the internal one – the ability to create an atmosphere, picture, harmonious palette of moods. In spite of different, diverse compositions (the author's material, plus Tatar and Greek dances, plus curtsy to Chick Corea), the album "My Day" is exactly an album, an integral interesting trip. Interesting, by the way, not only due to the slide plays, but also to the group's composition: in the end, the button accordion-contrabass-percussion is not a too banal option for a trio, is it? And Valentyn Korneinko and Andriy Moroz are from among the best in their business, it is known. And that is why there is the feeling that "My Day" can become a pleasant companion far not for just one day...
